Emergency Shelter Design
At the request of some NGO's assisting in the housing relief effort in the wake of the recent earthquake in Pakistan, Owen Geiger and I have collaborated on a simple earthbag emergency shelter concept that could be built with minimal tools and supplies. This design is flexible in size so it could accommodate large families or just individuals. Wood debris from collapsed buildings could be used for roof beams. All that is really needed are some earthbags and plastic sheeting or tarps. With additional barbed wire, steel rebar, cement, doors, windows, and a wood stove, this design could become permanent housing.
