Electrical Storage and Delivery

Once electricity is generated via solar panels or wind turbines it needs to be stored so that it is available when you need it; the common way to do this is with batteries. In order to keep the batteries from being over-charged, it is necessary to install a "charge controller," which monitors the state of charge of the batteries and lowers the voltage applied from the generating source. For the DC current stored in the batteries to be useful for most appliances, you will need an "inverter"to convert it to AC current, and you will also need some safety switches. These functions can be provided by purchasing separate units, or you can buy "power panels" that conveniently group them into a pre-wired configuration.
